Why trade options from the stock chart
Many intraday options traders read the underlying stock, not the option chart. Their entries, targets and stops are stock-price levels: support, resistance, the opening range or a prior high. The position, however, is a call or a put, so those levels have to be translated into option orders by hand.
OptionTrigger keeps the analysis on the TradingView stock chart and moves the execution to a local engine connected to Interactive Brokers. You draw the levels on the stock; the engine manages the option position you actually hold.
What you need
A TradingView chart in Chrome or, on macOS, TradingView Desktop. OptionTrigger Desktop for macOS with the matching extension. An Interactive Brokers account reached through TWS or IB Gateway on the same computer, with option market-data entitlements for the contracts you trade.
You can learn the whole workflow first with the built-in DEMO broker and an IBKR Paper account on the Free plan. A live IBKR account requires Premium.
Step 1: draw the setup on the stock
Place a Long or Short plan on the underlying chart. Long defaults to buying a call and Short to buying a put; the CALL/PUT control changes that choice. Set one or more take-profit levels and a stop-loss level as stock prices.
A target at NVDA $187.20 means “act when NVDA trades there”. It is not an option-premium target, and it does not fix the option fill price.
Step 2: choose the contract and size
Pick the expiry and strike yourself, or let AutoSize suggest a contract and quantity from your budget and preferences. Suggestions follow live quotes, so review the contract, expiry, quantity and account before entering.
Step 3: arm, then enter explicitly
Turning the plan ON arms it: the backend takes ownership and subscribes to the data it needs. Arming never sends an order. You click Buy to submit the entry, and exit rules then protect the quantity that actually filled, including partial fills.
Step 4: let stock-price rules manage the exits
When the stock reaches a target, the engine sends an option sell order for the share of the position that target covers. Stops can react to a touch (wick), wait for a closed bar (body) or combine both (hybrid), and can trail. Desktop shows orders, fills, health and a replay of each decision.
Short-dated and same-day expiries move quickly. Liquidity, spreads and data freshness affect every option fill, so practice with DEMO or Paper before trading live.
What this workflow does not do
The launch scope is single-leg long calls and puts. Spreads, iron condors, covered calls, Pine Script or webhook signals and automatic entries are not supported. Entries are always your explicit action.
